As the clouds parted and the elusive sun made a rare appearance, excitement filled the air at The Astbury Golf Club in Bridgnorth. Despite the brief bursts of sunshine, golfers arrived ready to tackle the course, armed with suncream and hopes of warmer temperatures.
A total of 123 golfers, donning shorts and sunscreen, gathered to take on the challenge of The Astbury. However, with temperatures hovering around 11 degrees, many quickly swapped their attire for jumpers and trousers.
The dedicated efforts of the greenkeepers were evident in the immaculate condition of the course, a testament to their hard work despite recent challenging weather conditions.
Excitement peaked during the Nearest the Pin competition, with Simon Kirman showcasing a flawless shot with his 7 iron, landing just 2 feet from the pin.
In the Longest Drive contest, Sam Lloyd claimed victory among the men, while Nicola Harrison emerged triumphant for the ladies.
In the Net category, Leroy Cunday and Paddy Day secured the top spot with an impressive 44 points, clinching the win on countback. They were closely followed by Ian Birch and Gary Moore in second place, also with 44 points but narrowly losing out on countback. Simon Kirkman and Nigel James secured third place with 43 points, also decided on countback. Sam Craggs and Tom McDonald rounded off the top four.
In the Gross category, Sam Lloyd and Richard Gealy emerged victorious with 34 points, securing the win on countback. Gary Moore and Ian Birch claimed second place with the same score, followed closely by Tom Ward and Kris Henscoe in third place.
Congratulations to all the golfers for a successful day, with the last group finishing their round in a commendable 4 hours and 5 minutes.
