Hawkstone Park - 24th April 2024
On a crisp spring day at Hawkstone Park, 150 golfers took on the challenge of the Championship course, a true test for any golfer.
Nestled in the picturesque countryside near Hawkstone Hall, an elegant 16th-century mansion once owned by the first Mayor of London, Sir Rowland Hill, the course is steeped in history. Legend has it that the valley below the Follies witnessed the Duke of Wellington's reenactment of the Battle of Waterloo, where he famously defeated Napoleon.
Hawkstone's golfing heritage dates back to 1920 when the course was first opened, later redesigned in 1930 by the esteemed five-time Open Champion, James Braid. Notably, the club's Head professional at the time, Alex Lyle, father of Sandy Lyle, contributed to the legacy by constructing the Windmill course, now undergoing a transformation.
Adding a splash of color to the proceedings, Ken Troup and Maurice Bolger stole the show with their eye-catching watermelon-inspired attire, earning the title of best-dressed golfers.
