The Shire 2025

What a spectacular day we had at The Shire Golf Club! The course, known for its breathtaking layout, delivered both challenge and beauty, with the signature 18th hole featuring an S-shaped lake in front of the green. This iconic hole, along with 14 other water features scattered across the course, provided plenty of excitement for the players as they navigated their rounds.

Course Highlights:

The Shire Golf Club is renowned for its scenic yet challenging design, with water hazards strategically placed throughout the course. The standout feature, of course, is the 18th hole, where golfers must contend with the S-shaped lake that guards the green. This hole is a true test of precision and nerve, especially with the pressure building towards the end of the round. It’s a memorable finish for anyone lucky enough to play it.

Weather:

We were graced with warm, sunny conditions, but with the threat of storms looming, the golfers had to make the most of the good weather early on. Despite the potential for rain, the day remained clear, and we had perfect conditions for golf.

Memorable Golfers or Moments:

A special mention goes to Andrew and Angus Parfoot, who took home the Best Dressed prize! Their stylish outfits made them stand out on the course, adding a touch of flair to an already exciting day of golf.

Tournament Highlights:

• Winning Pair: Congratulations to Ralph Walpole and Lee Asberry, who topped the leaderboard with 43 points. They showed great skill and composure throughout the round to secure the victory.

• Runner-Up Pair: A huge well done to Edward Wright and Neil Weyman, who also scored 43 points. Their performance was outstanding, just falling short in a countback for the top spot.

• Nearest the Pin: Gareth Cummins had a fantastic shot on the 5th hole, claiming the Nearest the Pin prize with precision.

• Longest Drive: The Longest Drive contest saw some impressive shots, with Shaun Collins and Sharon Baxtereach smashing drives that made them the winners for the men’s and ladies’ categories, respectively.

The Shire Golf Club provided the perfect setting for another thrilling event, with water hazards and challenging holes keeping the players on their toes. The competitive spirit was high, but the good weather, fantastic course, and great sportsmanship made it a truly enjoyable day for all.
