Swansea 4 Days 2025
The recent 4-day golf event in Swansea truly put our golfers to the test, with rain, wind, and even dense fog making for a challenging yet unforgettable experience. With play scheduled across three iconic courses — Ashburnham, Pyle & Kenfig, and Royal Porthcawl — the event was set to culminate at Clyne Golf Course. But, as is often the case with outdoor sports, Mother Nature had other plans, and dense fog on Day 4 led to the unfortunate cancellation of the Clyne finale. However, this did nothing to dampen spirits or overshadow the impressive performances we witnessed throughout the event.
Day 1: Ashburnham Golf Club – Winds of Change
The opening day at Ashburnham saw players battling gusty coastal winds and intermittent rain, creating tough conditions for everyone on the course. Despite this, Glen and Sarah Filer soared above the rest, clinching 1st placeand a £200 MGPT Voucher. Strong performances from Scott Theobald & Gary Hart and John Norrey & Paul Taylor secured 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.
Highlight:
-
Seb Forrest & Aaron Clarke claimed the 1st Gross prize, showing incredible accuracy in the challenging conditions.
-
Ian Prior demonstrated his precision by winning double Nearest The Pin awards, a feat to be proud of!
Day 2: Pyle & Kenfig – Wet but Worth It
The rain continued on Day 2, making shot placement tricky and greens unpredictable. Yet, Alan Vickery & Stephanie Bristow delivered a standout round, clinching 1st place and a £200 MGPT Voucher. Bristow also took home the Ladies Longest Drive prize, proving her power off the tee.
Notable Moments:
-
Robert Brassington & Carl Kirby dominated the gross score leaderboard.
-
Oliver and Tim Tyler stood out for their flair and style, winning the Best Dressed prize.
Day 3: Royal Porthcawl – Weathering the Storm
By Day 3, the weather truly tested our golfers, with gale-force winds sweeping across the legendary Royal Porthcawllinks. Yet, Aaron Butler & Mark Sweeney conquered the conditions to take 1st place, while Simon Chester & Matthew Williams delivered consistent performances that would later earn them the title of Overall Champions.
Strong Performances:
-
Seb Forrest notched his third Gross award of the week, adding to his already impressive tally.
-
Stephanie Bristow made it three Longest Drive wins in a row, completing a dominant personal run.
Day 4: Clyne Cancelled – The Fog Rolls In
Sadly, the final day at Clyne Golf Course was called off due to heavy fog, rendering play impossible with visibility near zero. However, the event organizers quickly adapted and rolled unused prize funds into bonus awards, which kept the excitement high and provided additional recognition for those who battled through the first three days.
