Montrose - Sunday 1st May
Today we were at Montrose Golf Club, The coastal town of Montrose sits between Dundee and Aberdeen and boasts an attractive golf course and a wide sandy beach.
The 1562 Course was played today. It’s known as the “championship course” which features in Scotland’s top 100 courses for 2022 and has been described as “a magnificent stretch of marvellously natural ground”.
The 1562 Course challenges golfers with its undulating fairways and fast greens, made more difficult when the wind whips inland from the sea..
The club has a lot of Scottish golfing championship history behind it, with a blast from the past. Golfers will walk the halls of fame in the golf club and relive the tour class photographs.
The weather started a little chilly and cloudy. But the views took the limelight. The course overlooks the Scurdie Ness Lighthouse that has been protecting shipping along the coastline for almost 150 years and continues to guide ships and boats to this day.
Further to the north of the golf course are the cliffs of St. Cyrus, which are seen on a clear day like today. The views were bursting with bustling colonies of seabirds.
The players rated this course “Top Class” and would love to see this course again on the list for golf pairs 2023!!!
