Horsley Lodge Scramble - 3rd October 2024
A rare dry and sunny October morning saw us venture to the foothills of the peak district to Horsley Lodge Golf Club for the next event in our Scramble series.
The club designed by Peter McEvoy is the number 1 ranked course in Derbyshire and you can tell why upon the beautiful entrance to the manicured gardens of the 164 acre estate.
A field comprising 48 teams and 147 players set off into the slight fog of the beautiful October morning to get the event underway.
A strong advantageous wind helped the early teams attack the short par 5 1st where no fewer than 6 eagles and 21 birdies were made, this wind also helped assist the longest drive 10th with Early Starter Dan Bullock smashing his drive a good 300 yards down the fairway, for the ladies longest drive late starter Jacey Peacock was not put off by the drop in wind as she hit a bullet splitting the fairway and taking home the prize.
The 147 yard tricky par 3 3rd hole was made to look easy by Andy Matthewman who cleverly placed his tee shot close to the pin, you could tell Andy was impressed as we were greeted with his big smile at the scoring desk along with a description of the “high spinning draw which ended up no more than inches from the hole”
The WHS competition was fiercely contested no less than 3 teams 6 teams within 1 shot of the lead.
