177 enthusiastic golfers took on the challenging Dunstable Downs Golf Club, which was in fantastic condition. The fast greens made scoring difficult, leading to common three-putts, but the dry weather with a stiff breeze added to the day's excitement. Reviews of the club's facilities were overwhelmingly positive.

Dunstable Downs Golf Club, sitting nearly 800 feet above sea level, occupies a spectacular setting in the Chiltern Hills with commanding vistas across several counties, from Surrey in the south to Northamptonshire in the north. Twenty-four years after its formation, the club acquired land at Downs Farm, close to where its course was originally set out on common land. The club then engaged James Braid to design a new 18-hole layout for the members.

As anticipation mounted, the moment arrived for the unveiling of the much-awaited prizes:
