Aberystwyth Scramble - 4th May 2024
On Saturday, May 4th, the Golf Pairs Tour embarked on a thrilling Texas Scramble adventure at Aberystwyth Golf Club in Wales, drawing 93 eager players to compete under the radiant Welsh sun.
Inspired by Harry Vardon's timeless wisdom, the tranquil setting of the Aberystwyth course, crafted by the legendary designer himself in the early 1900s, served as the perfect backdrop for a day of golfing bliss. Spanning 6126 yards with a Par of 70, the course offered not only a challenging test of skill but also breathtaking vistas of the Welsh Coast, enriching the golfing experience for all participants.
In a display of fierce competition, a mere one-point margin separated the top five teams from glory. Amidst 24 determined teams, it was Roberts, Jones, Akehurst & Owen who emerged triumphant, clinching victory by a single shot with an impressive tally of 52 points. In a tightly contested battle, the runner-ups, Westcott, Westcott, Nodder & Davies, showcased their prowess with three consecutive birdies, securing their place on the podium. Following closely behind were Hippsley, Lester, Evans & Wilson in third place, with Carroll, Williams, Stevens & Burton and Senior, Whiteley, Stark & Mackie rounding off the top five.
The Gross Competition witnessed a thrilling showdown, with 16 groups achieving scores below par. Quinn, Basnett, Jones & Owen emerged victorious with two stellar performances of 46 points each, sealing their triumph with an impressive finish of -5 for the last six holes.
In the Long Drive contest, Samantha Clark (Ladies) and Christopher James (Mens) stole the show with their impressive displays of power, claiming the coveted longest drive prize.
Meanwhile, precision prevailed in the Nearest the Pin contest, as Graham Clark delivered a masterful shot on the 18th, captivating the audience gathered in front of the clubhouse.
