We welcome male and female golfers. You can also enter as a mixed pair.

To enter the singles you must be 18+ on the 1st April 2021. To enter the pairs one golfers can be 14 on the 1st April 2021 provided the other is 18+ on the same date.

To participate all you need is an official WHS handicap index and to be a member of a CONGU affiliated golf club in England, Scotland or Wales.

Pairs - The format is Betterball Match Play 90% Handicap Allowance.

Singles - The format is traditional Match Play 100% Handicap Allowance - split into two competitions for higher and lower handicaps.

Pairs Handicaps - There is only one category for pairs - so all handicaps compete together. On the day of play, players will calculate their competition handicap based on their WHS Handicap index following the process defined by CONGU and set out in our official rules.

Singles Handicaps - In entering the singles you will be placed into one of the following categories in accordance with your official handicap index at the time of registration.

Higher Handicap Bracket - We anticipate the higher handicap bracket being anyone with a handicap index of 12.5 or over at the start of the competition.

The actual line will be drawn when all entries are completed because we can’t know what the midline will be until everyone has entered.

There will be no moving between categories once the draw has been made, however competitors will play every match from their handicap index on the day, regardless of bracket. On the day of play, players will calculate their competition handicap based on their WHS Handicap index following the process defined by CONGU and set out in our official rules.

  • Round 1 will commence on Thursday 1st April 2021.

Every golfer should endeavour to organise and play matches as soon as draws are made, do not wait until the deadlines. If you finish early the next round can commence.

Participants will be split into local regions to avoid long distance travelling and given plenty of time to complete their matches.

You’ll be drawn home or away in each round. Progression gives you the potential of having home advantage at your golf club, or being drawn away, and playing your opponents course, with a different challenge and environment.

Once you have registered, you will be sent a link to register in our Match Play portal. The portal makes it easy to register including your partner and handicap details, then communicate with your opponents and keep track of your progress throughout the competition.

This is a great reason to ensure you get matches played quickly - the sooner you win your fourth match the sooner you can book into the play-off most convenient to you. Once a finals day venue is full you will have to choose another which is not full.

Common FAQs
  • Please click 'ask a question above' or email orders@golfpairs.com who are dedicated to match play support.

  • Should your area be placed into lockdown that puts a restriction on playing matches we will simply extend deadlines for matches to be finished. Rest assured under no circumstances will Match Play be cancelled, we will work closely with our players to get it finished in time for our summer events.

  • Once Match Play has been purchased, participation is secured. Our Match Play team will then reach out to you via email with a link to login to the Match Play portal. This is where you submit your golfer information, find your opponents, their details and submit results.

  • The Golfbreaks team will be in touch with all qualifying finalists before the 30th September 2021 to confirm attendance and take all necessary personal information relevant to the administration of the finalist experience.

  • Entry requirements when travelling into the USA differ in accordance with each individuals circumstances and therefore it will be the responsibility of the finalist to ensure they have satisfied the documentation criteria specific to them
Most British passport holders can visit the US for up to 90 days under the US Visa Waiver Programme. To travel under the Visa Waiver Programme you must obtain an advance approval for travel by applying online to the Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (“ESTA”) at least 72 hours before travel. If you do not apply for an ESTA you will be refused travel.

  • Golfbreaks will book all confirmed members of the finalist experience onto a group booking flying out of and returning to London Heathrow. It is the responsibility of the finalist to arrange and cover the costs of travel logistics in getting to London Heathrow at the advised time.

  • You will be drawn home or away for each round and both teams will be given contact information to arrange the match, although the onus is on the home team to make contact since the home team will be booking the tees. If the home team does not reach out or the deadline is not met, the away team will progress unless evidence of attempted contact is given.

  • Many golf clubs offer courtesy and are happy to do this because their members will mutually benefit when playing away elsewhere, but some clubs will not permit this. If courtesy is not possible then we recommend the visitor fees being split four ways, but if not then the away team will need to pay a visitor fee to the club as per normal golf club policies.

  • All confirmed finalists must ensure that they purchase a policy which covers as a minimum the full costs that could be incurred in the event of you suffering an accident or illness, including repatriation.
It is your responsibility to ensure that the insurance cover you purchase is adequate for your particular needs. We do not check insurance policies. Please read your policy details carefully and take them with you on the finalists experience. We do not accept any liability for any possible loss that you suffer as a result of your failure to take out an adequate insurance policy.

  • Only the elements detailed in the advertised itinerary will be covered by Golfbreaks within the finalists experience. All other expenses incurred across the duration of the trip (for example, drinks, meals or transportation) are the responsibility of the individual finalist to pay for

  • With both Pairs and singles being part of the finalist group, we understand that finalists from the individual bracket in particular may wish to travel with a guest. We would of course wish to have the finalist experience be a memorable social occasion as well as fun and competitive for all.
