Speyside 3 day - Sunday 28th August
On Sunday we started off the Speyside 3 day competition at the stunning Castle Stuart Golf club
At Castle Stuart, nature bequeathed an opportunity for a links golf course to enjoy a rich landscape texture of Scottish ‘whins’, gorse and broom, heather, and marram – pervasive accents constituting backdrops and context throughout the golf experience – from beginning to end and changing throughout the seasons as nature commands. A rich tapestry. A landscape mosaic. A rugged beauty.
The morning was extremely calm with blue skies, and no wind! Scoring was good, but as the day went on, the wind picked up but all in all we couldn’t have asked for better weather. I’m sure everyone will agree, the course was in pristine condition, so shoutout to the green staff.
Congrats to Ross and Johnny on winning yesterdays event with an impressive score of 47! And well done to all over prize winners!
Bank holiday Monday saw us take to Boat of Garten golf club, a very different style of course compared to yesterday but still very pretty. The rain held off which was a good start to the day.
When it comes to golf in the Scottish Highlands, Boat of Garten should be first on every visitor's
itinerary. Designed by one of the grand-masters of golf course architecture, James Braid (1870- 1950), “The Boat” is set alongside the River Spey in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park,
only 10 minutes drive from the bustling village of Aviemore. The course is not only renowned as a demanding test of sporting skill but also as a magnificent setting for the game. Braid’s design features 18 completely individual holes, cleverly and sensitively shaped fairways lined by birch trees, heather and broom, maximising the natural landscape and producing a beautiful and challenging course.
Congrats to Mark Ribone and Carol Ribone with a superb score of 48, what a score on a tricky course!
A special mention goes to Nigel Edwards (pictured) who holed out on 9 for a hole in one! A phenomenal shot which he will remember forever! Hope everyone enjoyed the whiskey. The final day saw us at the hidden gem that is Spey valley! Probably the most scenic, picturesque course I’ve ever seen, backdrops of the stunning mountains of Aviemore, and the course was surrounded with purple heather which added to the beauty.
Recently voted one of the best in Scotland, Spey Valley features some of the most breathtaking views in the world, offering a glimpse right into the very heart of the Scottish Highlands.
Designed by Dave Thomas and host of the European Challenge Tour's Scottish Hydro Challenge from 2009 to 2018, the Spey Valley Championship Golf Course combines the challenging aspects of the sport with the unique Highlands environment, making the course an ideal venue for high-profile golf tournaments and charity fundraisers.
Not only have we been voted 'Most Picturesque Golf Course in the UK' we've also been awarded Scottish Highlands Golf Course of the Year 2018' by Your Golfer Magazine.
Congrats to Jim and Shona Peebies who won the day on a count back with 47 points! Excellent scoring for a long golf course.
With all 3 days coming to an end, there had to be a winner!
The overall winners was Simon Chester and Alex Carter with 132 stableford points over the 3 days, excellent scoring boys congratulations, make sure you both pack suncream. Thanks to everyone for playing and hope you all got home safe!
