Sheffield 3 Days Golf Pairs Event: A Tournament of Challenges, Camaraderie, and Incredible Golf

What an unforgettable three days of golf! The Sheffield 3 Days Golf Pairs Event brought together passionate golfers from all over, competing across some of the best courses the region has to offer. From the rich history of Lindrick Golf Club to the breathtaking views at Hallamshire GC and the serene woodland of Worksop GC, this tournament had it all.

Here’s a recap of the incredible journey across three legendary courses:

Day 1: Lindrick Golf Club

Course Highlights: The historic Lindrick Golf Club has been a staple in British golf since 1894, and it didn’t disappoint on day one of the tournament. A mixture of heathland and moorland, the course offered a picturesque backdrop of Silver Birch and Gorse lining the fairways, creating a blend of beauty and challenge. Known for its role in hosting numerous prestigious tournaments, including the 1957 Ryder Cup, Lindrick truly set the tone for the event.

Weather Conditions: The day started with a 1-hour frost delay, but once the fog cleared by 9am, we were greeted with a crisp, cloudless sky, perfect for golf.

Memorable Moments: The best-dressed award went to the last group out of the day: Stanley Martin, Peter Dixon, Dennis Atkinson, and Mick Grant, who rocked matching camouflage t-shirts. A stylish squad on the course, and their golf was just as sharp!

Round of the Day: Matt Robinson’s stunning long drive on Hole 14 – a bomb that reached over 320 yards!

Day 2: Hallamshire Golf Club

Course Highlights: Day two took us to the stunning Hallamshire Golf Club, nestled between Sheffield and the Peak District National Park. Designed by the legendary Harry Colt, the 18-hole heathland course offers spectacular views and sharp challenges, with its small, hand-mown greens and tricky layout.

Weather Conditions: It started with a crisp and cold morning, but by mid-day, the weather was perfect for golfing with continuous sunshine.

Memorable Moments: A real standout was Arran Hardcastle’s nearest the pin shot on Hole 9 from 149 yards, landing just 2ft from the flag—what a shot on such a tricky par 3!

Day 3: Worksop Golf Club

Course Highlights: On the final day, we made our way to Worksop Golf Club, nestled within the scenic Clumber Parkand Sherwood Forest. The course offers a woodland layout with fast-running sandy fairways and tricky greens. As a past host of the 2022 English Amateur, it’s clear that this course presents a true test of golf.

Weather Conditions: The day began with a cold and foggy start, but once the fog lifted, the course was bathed in sunny spells that made for an enjoyable finish to the tournament.
