Royal St George’s: A Challenging Day on England’s Number 1 Course
The first day of our 3-day golfing adventure on Kent’s Golf Coast kicked off in spectacular fashion at the iconic Royal St George’s Golf Club. Known for its rich history and challenging layout, this course was ready to test every player's skill, and boy, did it deliver. With its strong winds and strategic design, Royal St George’s proved to be as tough as it was beautiful. But, as expected from an Open Championship venue, the course was in impeccable condition.
Course Highlights:
Royal St George’s is a true test of golfing ability. With its undulating terrain, towering dunes, and deep bunkers, it places a premium on accuracy and steady driving. Set on an unspoiled stretch of seaside land, the course offers a distinct challenge on every hole.
A couple of standout holes included the par-4 4th, where players must drive over one of Britain’s tallest bunkers. The par-5 14th on the back nine, with out-of-bounds on the right side and a stream running across the fairway, tested even the most experienced players. The combination of water, sand, and tight fairways left little room for error.
Tournament Highlights:
Despite the fierce winds, there were some impressive performances on the day. The winning pair, Craig Scott & Christopher Algar, scored an excellent 47 points, showing real resilience in the challenging conditions.
The competition was tight, with just 1 point separating the top 3 pairs—proof of how challenging the course was and how well the competitors played under pressure.
