Longniddry - 29th July 2024
On the south shore of the Firth of Forth, 18 miles from Edinburgh, lies Longniddry Golf Club. This beautiful hybrid of links and woodland was formed in 1921 and designed by Harry S Colt and lies along what is known as Scotland’s Golf Coast. The course which has often held Open qualifying was the latest stop for the Golf Pairs Tour. At 6260 yards and par 68 from the white tees and 5785 yards (par 73) from the red tees the course would provide a real test for our 136 golfers.
Bone and Ham by a Point!
68 teams took to the course on a beautiful but breezy day and some great golf resulted in an extremely tightly packed leaderboard with just 4 points eventually separating the top 16 teams! It was Norman Bone (18 handicap) and Tony Ham (5.7) who pipped the field by one point to finish with a brilliant 44 points. Tony’s birdie at the long par 4 14th hole setting the pair up for a great finish to the round, Norman adding more valuable points with a lovely 3 at the 16th hole. The next four teams would finish on 43 points and have to be separated by countback and the same would apply to the next 4 teams on 42 points.
