Format Florida Scramble - Everyone Drives - The person who played the shot doesn’t play the next shot - Lowest Score Wins
Participation Anyone can play - however to qualify for prizes you must have a WHS Handicap Index.  If you don’t have a WHS Handicap Index you can still participate, but your handicap will be scratch.

The Oldest Course in England.

Royal North Devon at Westward Ho! can rightly claim to be the cradle of English Golf. Founded in 1864, it is the oldest golf course in the country and is regarded as the St Andrews of the South. The golf course is as tough as any of the UK’s more famous links layouts and has recently been placed in Golf World 's "Top 100 Courses in the World" that a golfer “must play”.

At the Golf Pairs Tour, although we started with only offering pairs competitions, we have increased our offerings to singles events in 2022 and in 2023 we are going to introduce a big favorite at Golf Clubs around the country - the Scramble.

Played in groups of 4 golfers and open only to those with formal WHS handicaps - the Scramble  is a fun sociable golf format where groups play as a team, pick the best shot from the group of 4, and all play from that spot until someone holes out. Texas Variant - Team score - All players play each shot - select the best - all players play from that spot until the ball is holed.
  • Florida Variant - Team score - All players drive - select the best - all but the player who played the previous shot play from that spot until someone holes out.
  • Typically everyone needs a certain number of drives to ensure everyone is participating fully, and handicaps are complicated but calculated as follows.
  • Scramble (4 players) 25% / 20% / 15% / 10% from the lowest to highest handicap
  • Scramble (3 players) 30% / 20% / 10% from the lowest to highest handicap
  • Scramble (2 players) 35% Low / 15% High
For example a team of 4 with 5, 10, 15 and 20 playing handicaps, your team Texas Scramble handicap would be a total of 7.5 (Rounded to 8) which would be deducted from the team’s gross score. (Player 1: 1.25 (5 x 25%), Player 2: 2 (10 x 20%), Player 3: 2.25 (15 x 15%), Player 4: 2 (20 x 10%))
Don’t worry - Golf Genius will sort it all for you - as usual all you have to do is enter your gross score on the hole! Prizes Due to the nature of the Scramble where groups of golfers essentially follow the rules themselves without any cross checking or verification, the prizes at these events are token.
However green fees are low - so everyone can have a fun day out and win something at the same time!
