Stoneham - Thursday 22nd September
Hampshire and Stoneham golf club was today's venue for the 158 strong field and our final event of the week.
A new venue for golf pairs tours and we were treated to a course in great condition which was recently voted in the top 60 in the UK.
The Club was established in 1908 in an old deer park and Willie Park Junior, designer of Sunningdale Old Course, created a wonderful course in the undulating heath and parkland.
Although it is short by today's championship standards at 6400 yards, it is not a course that will be overpowered and brain will reward you more than brawn.
Stoneham hosted the first Dunlop Masters Golf tournament (now the British Masters) in April 1946. The result was a shared trophy between Bobby Locke and Dai Rees.
Todays best dressed golfer was in the 8.20 group, well done Matthew steward. A voucher is heading your way!
5 par 3s led to a hotly contested nearest the pin competition and plenty of 2s too.
The nearest pin out the lot was on the Chris Lee on the 8th.
Gary smith won nearest the pin on the 2nd, gary was in the 07.50 group and the shot stood the test and lasted all day to win the prize with none of the 140 plus golfers behind getting any closer. Next week he head to Cornwall and to Cape Cornwall golf club on Tuesday… lands end here
