North Wales 24th April
We were at North Wales golf club today, for the start of the Mizuno wales tour of the 2023 season.
North Wales Golf Club is situated on the West Shore of the beautiful seaside resort of Llandudno with fantastic views over the Conwy Estuary to Anglesey and Snowdonia.
It is an 18 hole links course of Championship standard and one of the most enjoyable golfing experiences in North Wales. A natural links course in every aspect.
The front nine holes are similar to Troon, running alongside a railway line and the homeward stretch along the coast.
This is a very challenging golf course particularly when you play it in the wind and the rain. However, if you're going to play links golf in the UK this is a good place to start.
Off the tourist track and still accessible and about 1/4 of the price of more reputable links in Scotland and Ireland, economically minded golfers will not be the slightest bit disappointed.
The front nine in a fairly standard links lay-out with challenges abounding. The back nine, particularly the par 3s at 13, 16, and 17 will leave you in awe of yourself if you par them and realising your limitations if you do what you'll probably do (if the wind is blowing) stuff them up big time!
The fairways had struggled with the rainfall the past few weeks, but the greens suffered the most. The growth is too quick! Fluffy clouds they were described as today!!☁️
Shot of the day has to be Lance Kimberley as he had a mediocre day on the course but he hit an impressive 3 wood shot down 15… he wasn’t expecting it and neither were we!! (Gobsmacked at the perfect shot)!!
Shoutout to Ben Ashurst, who won Longest drive for men on the 7th hole with a whopping shot.
