Winter Match Play
Two of you. Four matches. One winter to remember.
Who says golf has to hibernate? Winter Match Play turns the quiet months into the most competitive season of the year. Forget grinding out a card and waiting for the results to go online.
This is head-to-head golf, where every hole is a mini battle, every putt matters, and the momentum can swing on a single shot. Grab your favourite playing partner, back each other up, and see how far you can go.
One entry = one pair Your £49.99 entry covers you and your partner together. That's under £25 each for a whole winter of competitive golf.
You don't each need to buy a place; one purchase gets your pair into the draw. How does matchplay work? In matchplay, you're not counting your total score. You're simply trying to win more holes than the pair you're playing.
- Better ball: all four players play their own ball on every hole. Your pair's best score on that hole (after handicap strokes) goes up against their pair's best score.
- Lowest score wins the hole. Same score? The hole is halved and nobody wins it.
- Win more holes than they do and you win the match. Once one pair is further ahead than there are holes left, the match is over.
That's the beauty of it: a bad hole doesn't ruin your round. Card a 9? Forget it, it's one hole. Your partner can bail you out, and the next tee is a fresh start.
Win four and you're champions It's a knockout, so win your match and you're through to the next round. Win all four and you've won your bracket.
Round Play by
Round 1 18 Nov – 3 Jan
Round 2 4 Feb
Round 3 11 March
Round 4 15 April
You arrange each match with your opponents at a time and place that suits you.
You won't have to make long journeys or play on a fixed date. We draw opponents locally, so you'll be playing golfers near you, though never someone from your own club.
The prize Bracket winners receive a £400 Golf Pairs voucher to spend on our events over the following 12 months.
Win your matches this winter and next season's golf is on us.
Can we enter? You'll each need an official CONGU WHS handicap. You'll also both need to have played three formal competition rounds in the last 12 months.
Entries close 11th November. Get your partner on the phone, pick a team name you'll regret, and book your spot.
