A Brief History of Hawkstone Park

Nestled in the stunning Shropshire countryside, Hawkstone Park Golf Club is steeped in history and natural beauty. The courses wind through dramatic sandstone ridges, woodland, and rolling parkland, creating one of the most distinctive golfing landscapes in the UK. Originally laid out in the early 20th century and refined over the years, Hawkstone Park offers a unique blend of strategic design and breathtaking scenery—making it the perfect venue for our two-day event.

Day 1 – The Follies Course

Highlights of the Course:
Day one saw us take on the original parkland layout—the Follies Course. This marked the start of our two-day Shropshire event, with 80 golfers competing in a pairs betterball format. With separate daily prizes and overall standings across both days, there was plenty to play for from the outset.

Weather Conditions:
Beautiful spring conditions greeted the players, with sunny skies throughout. A stiff breeze added an extra challenge, particularly for the later tee times.

Memorable Moments:
A standout performance came from Paula Wendleken, who scooped the entire twos pot (£161.25). A great reminder that you have to be in it to win it—especially with others recording twos but not entering!

Day 2 – The Championship Course

Highlights of the Course:
Day two moved onto the Championship Course, bringing water hazards and tighter challenges into play. With prizes still up for grabs and overall standings on the line, the competition remained fierce.

Weather Conditions:
Another glorious day, with sunshine continuing and a lighter breeze than day one—though the course still demanded precision.

Memorable Moments:
The 2nd hole—our holiday hole-in-one challenge—proved extremely tough. Into the wind and uphill, very few players even found the green, with conditions and pin placement making it a real test.

Winning Pair:
Steve Burt & Mark Russell – 40 points (-4)
A dominant display securing both the day win and the overall title.
