Welwyn Garden City 2026
Share
Welwyn Garden City Golf Club once again proved why it remains one of Hertfordshire's most respected and historic venues — with home talent dominating both leaderboards, a Nearest the Pin that came within inches of a hole-in-one, and a real festival of golf in the summer sunshine.
Course Highlights
Founded in 1923, Welwyn Garden City Golf Club has welcomed generations of golfers and carries serious heritage. Most notably, six-time Major Champion Sir Nick Faldo honed his game here during his early years before going on to dominate the world stage. The club has also been associated with professional talents such as Tom Lewis, further cementing its reputation as a breeding ground for elite golf. With its immaculate fairways, challenging greens, and rich history, Welwyn Garden City provided the perfect setting for another fantastic Golf Pairs day.
Weather Conditions
The summer sunshine showed up in style, and the atmosphere throughout the day was outstanding. Players enjoyed excellent course conditions across the board, with the greens in particular rolling superbly. The kind of day where the course gives you a fair chance, and the scoring reflected exactly that.
Memorable Moments
The home crowd had plenty to cheer about. Welwyn Garden City club members topped the WHS leaderboard and locked out the top four positions on the Gross leaderboard — a remarkable show of strength from the host club, and a reminder of why this place keeps producing talent.
The shot of the day, though, belonged to Claudette Smith, whose Nearest the Pin effort finished just inches away from a hole-in-one. An incredible strike, and one that nearly stole the headlines entirely.
Tournament Highlights
The WHS leaderboard was tight from top to bottom, with the top two pairs separated only by countback on 45 points, and another three pairs locked together on 44. The Gross leaderboard saw something special too — Harry Cox and Louie Bloxham putting together a stunning 46 points (-10) thanks to eight birdies and an eagle, with Louie carding a gross 67 (-3). A feat only matched on the day by Kyle Dix, whose pair finished 4th Gross. Class golf at every turn.
