Wind, Waves & World-Class Golf at Turnberry

Few venues in golf can rival the drama and beauty of Trump Turnberry, and over two unforgettable days, our golfers experienced both the challenge and spectacle of this iconic destination. From brutal winds to breathtaking coastal views, this was links golf at its very best.

Day 1 – King Robert the Bruce Course

The event began on the stunning King Robert the Bruce Course, where players were immediately greeted by one of the most celebrated stretches in golf.

The coastal holes from 8 to 11 provided unforgettable views from the heights of Bain’s Hill, overlooking Ailsa Craig, the Isle of Arran, and the famous Turnberry Lighthouse.

The standout hole for many was the 9th – “Kintyre’s Cove”, a dramatic par 4 with a green perched on a rocky outcrop above the ocean. A true “do or die” approach that demanded absolute precision.

Set amongst the historic ruins of Turnberry Castle, believed to be the birthplace of King Robert the Bruce in 1274, the course offered a perfect blend of history and challenge.

Conditions

It was dry but extremely windy, making scoring incredibly difficult throughout the day.

Highlights

• A welcome return from Richard Cameron, our 2024 charity hole-in-one winner
• Golfers enjoying their overnight stay, with many relaxing and watching The Masters on Sky Sports after their round

With the wind proving relentless, scoring was tight at the top:

Day 2 – The Ailsa Championship Course

Day 2 took players onto the world-renowned Ailsa Championship Course, a four-time Open Championship venueand consistently ranked among the top 10 courses in the world.

Fresh from a £1 million redesign by Martin Ebert, the course showcased even more of its dramatic coastal character and strategic brilliance.

The coastal stretch from holes 4 to 11 once again stole the show — arguably the most spectacular sequence in golf.

Highlights included:

• Hole 9 – “Bruce’s Castle”, a breathtaking par 3 played over the ocean beside the iconic lighthouse
• Hole 10 – “Dinna Fouter”, a sweeping par 5 with its famous “doughnut bunker”
• Hole 18 – “Duel in the Sun”, a legendary finishing hole steeped in Open Championship history

Conditions

Still windy, but slightly more forgiving than Day 1. The winds eased later in the day, giving afternoon golfers a slight advantage.

Memorable Moment

Shot of the Day: Owen Scully (5.7hcp) with a fantastic hole-in-one on the 146-yard 11th hole — a moment to remember on one of the world’s great courses.
