Spring Challenges & Strong Scoring at The Welcombe Golf Club

We were delighted to welcome golfers to The Welcombe Golf Club, set just outside the historic town of Stratford-upon-Avon, famously known as the home of Shakespeare. With its picturesque setting and testing layout, it provided the perfect stage for a memorable day of Golf Pairs competition.

A True Test of Golf

The course was set up to challenge from the very start. Tight fairways, well-placed water features, and long walks between holes made it a true test of both skill and endurance.

Morning players faced the toughest conditions, battling through drizzle, rain, and a stiff breeze, while the afternoon groups enjoyed slightly improved scoring conditions — although the wind remained a constant factor throughout the day.

Weather & Conditions

Despite the early challenges, the day developed into beautiful spring conditions, with sunny skies and a fresh feel in the air. It seems April showers have taken a year off in 2026, much to the delight of our golfers!

Memorable Moments

There were plenty of standout moments across the day:

⛳ Nick Vaughan came incredibly close on the 6th hole-in-one challenge, with a superb tee shot that nearly found the bottom of the cup — and ultimately held on to claim nearest the pin.

💥 A remarkable stat from the final group saw Danny & Ben playing off a combined +3 handicap (one off +3 and the other scratch) — a serious level of golf that might just be a Golf Pairs record!

Tournament Highlights

In testing conditions, scoring was tight at the top, with consistency proving key. Posting a 40-point round early in the day turned out to be enough to hold off the field.
