A Three-Day Golfing Journey Through Sheffield
Three days, three outstanding venues, and a full mix of Yorkshire weather—this Sheffield golf trip delivered everything you’d expect and more. From championship pedigree to classic moorland tests and pristine heathland, each course brought its own identity, and the competition unfolded brilliantly across the three rounds.
Day 1 – Lindrick Golf Club
Windy but dry
The tour began at Lindrick Golf Club, a venue rich in history and most famously the host of the 1957 Ryder Cup. Designed by Harry Colt, the course is a superb example of traditional English golf architecture—natural, flowing, and deceptively challenging. The heathland layout features firm fairways, strategic bunkering, and subtly contoured greens that reward accuracy and thoughtful positioning.
Conditions were dry but far from straightforward. A steady wind swept across the course all day, making club selection crucial and testing even the most experienced players. Keeping the ball flight controlled was key, and those who adapted best quickly rose to the top of the leaderboard.
Day 1 saw Nicholas Hearne & Mark Cooley set the early pace, claiming 1st place on the WHS leaderboard, closely followed by Bernard Thompson & Kevin Bradley in 2nd and Stephen Formby & Mark Lilley in 3rd. In the Gross competition, Dee & Steven Pyatt took top honours, while Stuart & Tom Newland secured 2nd.

Day 2 – Hallamshire Golf Club
A bright start, turning into a cold and very windy afternoon. Early risers had the calm conditions, with scattered showers late on.
Hallamshire Golf Club, founded in 1897, is one of the region’s oldest and most characterful courses. Set on moorland terrain, it offers a classic layout shaped by natural contours, elevation changes, and exposed holes that leave players at the mercy of the elements.
The day began in calm, bright conditions, giving early starters a golden opportunity to post strong scores. However, as the day wore on, the weather turned dramatically. Temperatures dropped, the wind intensified, and scattered showers added an extra layer of difficulty for the later groups.
The course itself proved a true test. Elevation changes and tricky green complexes demanded precision, while the strengthening wind made distance control increasingly difficult. Unsurprisingly, those who teed off early dominated the leaderboard.
Leading the way on Day 2 were Thomas & Peter Milton, taking 1st place on the WHS leaderboard, with Terry Rose & Carl Ball finishing 2nd and Gary Thompson & Andrew Fenton in 3rd. The Gross prize went to Paul & Tom Phillips, with Andy Smith & Dave Gardner finishing just behind.

Day 3 – Worksop Golf Club
Bright start with a brief but heavy rain shower for the later groups
The final round took place at Worksop Golf Club, widely regarded as one of the finest heathland courses in England. Established in 1914 and also influenced by Harry Colt, Worksop is known for its stunning presentation, heather-lined fairways, and fast, true greens.
The day began in near-perfect conditions, with bright skies and a calm atmosphere setting the stage for a dramatic finale. The course rewarded strategic play, with tight driving lines and punishing heather awaiting anything offline. Approach shots needed to be precise, as the greens were both quick and subtly contoured.
A brief but heavy rain shower later in the day added one final twist, testing the composure of those in the closing groups and ensuring the competition went right down to the wire.
On the final day, Steve Bradley & Robb Dunn claimed top spot on the WHS leaderboard, followed by Steve Glennon & Thomas Dunn in 2nd and Paul Osborne & Steve Dalton in 3rd. The Gross title went to Philip & Daniel Pennington, with Mark Goodhind & Daniel Sillence finishing 2nd.
