Testing Conditions & Strong Scoring at Sandwell Park
A cold and blustery day greeted golfers at Sandwell Park Golf Club, but despite the challenging conditions, the course once again delivered a fantastic day of Golf Pairs competition.
Known for its demanding layout and excellent greens, Sandwell Park proved to be a true test from start to finish — particularly on the long and challenging par 3s that became one of the biggest talking points of the day.
A Warm Welcome at Sandwell Park
Players were met with a fantastic atmosphere from the moment they arrived, thanks in no small part to Keith, the club starter, who personally introduced every golfer before they hit their opening tee shot.
As the weather improved later in the afternoon and the sun finally broke through, many players stayed behind to enjoy a well-earned drink in the outdoor seating area and reflect on a memorable day’s golf.
Weather & Conditions
Conditions were far from easy for the time of year. Golfers battled:
-
Cold temperatures
-
Strong winds
-
Early rain showers
Thankfully, the rain eventually cleared and the day finished in sunshine — rewarding those who braved the elements early on.
Memorable Moments
One of the standout stories came from professional jockey Shane Quinlan, making his first Golf Pairs appearance. Shane produced some excellent golf and, during a strong stretch on the front nine, carried his partner Scott Denyerthrough a brilliant run of scoring.
Tournament Highlights
Despite the testing weather, scoring at the top of the leaderboard was excellent.
Highlights from the day included:
-
Excellent pace of play throughout
-
The rain staying away for the majority of the round
-
Fantastic to see a strong number of women golfers competing
