Saffron Walden 2026
Share
Saffron Walden Golf Club served up a glorious day of golf, with stunning surroundings, a competitive field, and one memorable moment that nearly ended in disaster for the clubhouse windows.
Course Highlights
Set in the picturesque grounds of the famous Audley End estate, Saffron Walden Golf Club is one of those courses that reminds you why you fell in love with the game in the first place. The mansion provides a striking backdrop, while the elevated views across the historic market town of Saffron Walden give the round a real sense of occasion. It's a course that asks you to think your way around and the field rose to the challenge.
Weather Conditions
Despite a forecast that had everyone packing waterproofs, the weather gods were on our side. A single brief shower was all we got, and the rest of the day delivered exactly the kind of conditions you hope for: comfortable, bright, and just enough breeze to keep things interesting. A genuinely lovely day's golf.
Memorable Moments
The shot of the day, for all the wrong reasons came from the 18th tee. A wayward strike sent the ball flying towards the clubhouse and into one of the windows, providing plenty of drama for those enjoying a drink on the terrace. No damage done (we're told), but a moment that'll be talked about for a while. A reminder that the 18th at Saffron Walden gives you nowhere to hide.
Winners
Huge congratulations to Richard Boddington and Graham Carson, who took the top spot with a brilliant 46 points. A round of that quality on a course like Saffron Walden is no small feat, and the pair thoroughly deserved their win.
The runners-up spot was where things got really tight. Seven pairs finished on 44 points, with Maurice Atkin and Alex Feagan edging it on countback. A fantastic effort across the board, it doesn't get much closer than that.
Nearest the Pin
Well played to Nathan Thomas, who claimed the Nearest the Pin honours on the day.
A brilliant day at a special venue. Thanks to everyone who came out to play, to Saffron Walden Golf Club for hosting us so well, and congratulations again to all the winners. We're already looking forward to the next one.
