Rotherham 2026
Share
A historic parkland course with a properly serious design pedigree, perfect summer conditions, an outstanding winning score of 50 points, and two 2s from a single player — Rotherham served up a really memorable day of golf.
Course Highlights
Rotherham Golf Club is a historic parkland course in Thrybergh, South Yorkshire, with some genuinely standout design pedigree. The original course was designed by Open Champion Sandy Herd, and later enhanced by the legendary architect James Braid — giving it a classic strategic layout that rewards thoughtful golf on every hole. A course with real history in every yard.
Weather Conditions
Perfect for golf. Sunny skies and around 24°C — genuinely ideal conditions from tee to green, and the kind of day where the course got every chance to shine.
Memorable Moments
Best Dressed honours went to Ryan Morris and Andy Winter, who'll be putting their Royal & Awesome vouchers to good use — apparently they already shop there regularly, so it's a properly well-suited prize.
Another standout moment of the day belonged to James Appleyard, who bagged two 2s on his card — one on the 14th and another on the 16th. Sharp iron play in that kind of form doesn't come along often, and it made for one of the most talked-about individual performances of the day.
Tournament Highlights
A ridiculous winning score of 50 points topped the leaderboard today — a genuinely outstanding number on a course of this quality, and the kind of round that only comes together when everything clicks. Combine that with a strong 48 in the runners-up spot and a stunning -4 on the Gross leaderboard, and it was a day of top-drawer scoring across the board.
Winners
Huge congratulations to John Berry and Simon Whitworth, who took the top spot with an astonishing 50 points. Ridiculous scoring by any measure, and a thoroughly deserved win — well done, lads.
In the runners-up spot were Ian Svenson and Ian Whittaker with a brilliant 48 points — a fantastic effort right in the mix, and a score that would have won plenty of other days.
Best Gross honours went to Chris Wilson and Martin Fox with a stunning -4 — a proper display of low-handicap golf on a course that gives nothing away easily.
On the Course
Plenty of action away from the main leaderboard too:
- Men's Longest Drive — Daniel Jeffries (basically on the green on an uphill 366-yard par-4!)
- Ladies' Longest Drive — Carol Price (a great effort)
- Nearest the Pin (3rd) — Paul Blackshaw (6 feet on a 150-yard tee shot to an elevated, undulating green — and impressively, from the 4th group out, meaning his shot held up all day)
Well played to all three for stepping up when it mattered.
A brilliant day at a historic South Yorkshire venue. Thanks to everyone who played, to Rotherham Golf Club for hosting us so well, and huge congratulations once again to John and Simon on a genuinely ridiculous 50 points. Onto the next one.
