Sunshine & Standout Golf at Monifieth Golf Links
Set just along the coast from Carnoustie and St Andrews, Monifieth Golf Links (Medal Course) provided the perfect stage for a fantastic day of Golf Pairs competition. With its rich history and championship pedigree, it’s a venue that always delivers — and this year was no exception.
A Championship Course with Heritage
The Medal Course is one of Scotland’s finest, blending traditional links characteristics with subtle parkland features. Known for its fast, true greens and strategic layout, it’s a course that rewards precision and smart course management.
At over 6,600 yards, it offers a strong test for all abilities and holds a special place in golfing history — notably as a regular practice ground for Tom Watson ahead of his first Open Championship victory.
Weather & Conditions
In a rare treat for a Scottish links, players enjoyed a warm and sunny spring day — and even more surprisingly, no wind!
These calm conditions allowed golfers to take full advantage of the course and produced some excellent scoring throughout the field.
Memorable Moments
While the golf was impressive, one of the more unusual highlights came off the scorecard…
🦢 Dave on the charity hole found himself under attack — quite literally — as he was dive-bombed by one of the biggest swans he’s ever seen! A moment that certainly won’t be forgotten in a hurry.
Tournament Highlights
The standout performance of the day came from a brilliant partnership:
🏆 Winners:
🥇 Leonard Woodward (23.6) & Laurie Crane (9.9) – 46 Points
A perfectly balanced team effort, with:
- Laurie opening with a birdie on the 1st
- Leonard contributing key scoring pars on the 3rd, 11th, and 14th
🔥 Best Gross Round:
Liam Nicolson (8.7) & Jack Halley (3.5) – 70
Both players birdied the par-5 4th, with Jack adding further birdies on the 11th and 15th to cap off an excellent round.
