Course Highlights

Llanymynech Golf Club is a genuinely unique venue — a scenic parkland course set on the England–Wales border, with holes located in both countries. Established in 1914, the 18-hole course winds through mature woodland and gently undulating terrain, offering a mix of tree-lined fairways, well-protected greens, and panoramic views over the surrounding countryside.

Famously the only golf course in the UK that crosses two countries, Llanymynech provides an enjoyable challenge for golfers of all abilities while combining historic charm with a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. Not many days on the calendar where you can tee it up in England and putt out in Wales.

Weather Conditions

Clear blue skies all day, and not a breath of wind — but seriously hot from start to finish. The kind of day where staying hydrated and pacing yourself mattered as much as your golf swing. A good job the halfway house was fully stocked with food and drink — a proper lifeline in temperatures like these, and much appreciated by the field.

Memorable Moments

Best Dressed honours went to George Hughes and Carl Armitage, who brought the colour bright and early to kick the day off in style. A properly turned-out pair and a worthy nod to get the day underway.

Tournament Highlights

What a day for golf. With fiery fairways and firm conditions, the course provided a real test for every golfer — dry ground meant plenty of extra roll off the tee, but sharp thinking around the greens was the key to keeping the score ticking over.

The scoring story of the day came from the winning pair — Mark Wilkes and Steve Davies set the course alight with an incredible 25 points on the front nine, laying the perfect foundation for a superb victory.

The Gross prize went to the Campbell team, who carded a brilliant 1-under-par round to claim the win by a single shot — thanks in no small part to a crucial birdie on the 18th hole. Golf like that on a firm, fast course in that heat is genuinely top-drawer stuff.

Winners

Huge congratulations to Mark Wilkes and Steve Davies, who took the top spot with a superb 45 points. Anchored by that stunning front nine and a thoroughly deserved win.

In the runners-up spot were Dominic Hoskin and Paul Hoskin with a strong 44 points — a fantastic effort just a single point off the pace and a really nice family (or shared-surname) double act at the top of the leaderboard.

Best Gross honours went to the Campbell team with a brilliant 1-under-par round — sealed by that birdie on the 18th.
