Firm-and-fast fairways, closely contested scoring across every leaderboard, a -4 Gross round, and a genuinely dominant day for one player picking up prizes across four separate competitions — Kingsthorpe served up another cracking Golf Pairs event.

Course Highlights

Kingsthorpe Golf Club once again proved to be a superb host for Golf Pairs, providing competitors with a true test of strategy, precision, and teamwork. Established in 1908, the parkland course has long been regarded as one of Northamptonshire's hidden gems. Designed to make the most of the natural rolling landscape, Kingsthorpe features tree-lined fairways, well-protected greens, and a layout that rewards thoughtful course management over sheer power.

Although not the longest course on the schedule, Kingsthorpe always asks plenty of questions from the opening tee to the final green. Accuracy from the tee is essential, while the undulating greens place a real premium on quality approach play and confident putting.

Weather Conditions

The conditions added a fascinating extra dimension to the challenge. Fairways were firm and fast throughout the day, meaning well-struck drives often picked up significant extra yardage. Those who judged the conditions perfectly were rewarded with shorter approaches — but any misjudgement could quickly see tee shots running through fairways and into the rough, trees, or awkward positions. A genuinely enjoyable balance of risk and reward, with smart course management proving just as valuable as length off the tee.

Memorable Moments

Best Dressed honours went to Louie Bloxham — a properly turned-out effort and a worthy nod. And Louie made sure it was a day to remember all round, picking up prizes across four different competitions today: Best Dressed, 1st Gross, Men's Longest Drive, and helping his pair to Best Gross overall. A genuinely dominant day out.

Tournament Highlights

With excellent scoring conditions on offer, the competition was closely contested across all leaderboards. The top of the WHS leaderboard came down to countback with two pairs tied on 45 points, and the same story played out again for 3rd and 4th on 43 points. Genuinely tight scoring right through the field.

WHS Leaderboard Winners

Huge congratulations to Anton Clarke and Dale Betts, who took the top spot with a superb 45 points, edging it on countback.

A massive well played to Richard Swaffield and Steve Swaffield in the runners-up spot, finishing on the same 45 points — desperately unlucky on countback, but a brilliant round all the same.

Gross Leaderboard

Congratulations to Tom Phillpotts and Louie Bloxham, who took the Gross title with a stunning -4 — a proper display of low-handicap golf.

Runners-up on Gross were Martin Kirkbride and Lee Clawley with a strong -1 — a fantastic effort right at the top of the Gross standings.
