Bright sunshine, a comfortable 24°C, a gentle breeze, and some genuinely brilliant individual performances, Heswall provided the perfect stage for a really memorable Betterball Pairs Stableford.

Course Highlights

The Betterball Pairs Stableford was played at the prestigious Heswall Golf Club on a glorious summer's day. A properly enjoyable venue that gave the field every chance to enjoy their round — and with conditions near-perfect throughout, the course was seen at its very best.

Weather Conditions

Bright sunshine, a comfortable high of 24°C, and a gentle breeze — genuinely near-perfect conditions for golf. Warm enough to be enjoyable, breezy enough to keep club selection interesting, and dry throughout. Hard to ask for more than that.

Memorable Moments

Best Dressed honours went to Gwyn Thomas and John Gustafson, whose colourful jazzy outfits made sure they stood out from a fairway away. A properly turned-out pair and a worthy nod.

Tournament Highlights

Some outstanding individual performances lit up the day.

Abbie Cowlard made a sensational start — an eagle on the par-5 1st followed by a birdie on the par-4 2nd to immediately set the tone for her round. Two shots to open, and a proper statement of intent. She also went on to claim the Ladies' Longest Drive on the 13th — a properly brilliant day.

Ben Turner produced one of the rounds of the day — a stunning bogey-free gross 67 (-5). Anytime you can go bogey-free at a course like Heswall you've done something special, and Ben certainly did.

And on the closing hole, James Gough provided one of the most memorable moments of the day by driving the 299-yard par-4 18th. Not a bad way to sign off.
