Welcome rainfall softening the course after a prolonged dry spell, deer roaming the fairways, a literary connection to Sherlock Holmes, and 109 golfers enjoying a genuinely enjoyable day of Golf Pairs action — Crowborough Beacon served up a memorable day of golf.

Course Highlights

Crowborough Beacon is a course of real character — set in stunning heathland with undulating terrain, natural hazards, and one of the most peaceful settings you'll find in Sussex golf.

There's also a fitting literary connection to the club. Crowborough Beacon has a fascinating association with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle — the creator of Sherlock Holmes — who lived locally and served as Club Captain in 1910. A properly special piece of history that adds to the sense of occasion every time you play here.

As ever at the Beacon, the natural surroundings provided an additional attraction. Players were treated to the occasional appearance of the local wildlife, including deer moving around the course — a reminder of the wonderful setting in which the club sits.

Weather Conditions

Following a prolonged dry spell, the recent rainfall proved to be a welcome change for the course. The moisture had softened the ground nicely and brought the fairways and greens back to more receptive playing conditions, making for an enjoyable day of golf.

The course was looking particularly fresh, with the rain providing some much-needed relief after the firm and increasingly dry conditions of recent weeks. Crowborough Beacon's heathland character retained all of its challenge, but the softer ground took a little of the sting out — an ideal balance.

Memorable Moments

Best Dressed honours went to Tim Cox, who certainly stood out in his lovely red and white outfit — and completed the look with matching club head covers to boot. A properly turned-out effort and a worthy nod for bringing the look together right down to the detail.

Tournament Highlights

A brilliant turnout of 109 golfers made for a successful and sociable day at the Beacon — combining competitive golf with good company, improved course conditions, and the ever-present wildlife.
