Camberley Heath Golf Club

With temperatures soaring on what was officially the UK's hottest recorded June day, the Golf Pairs stop at Camberley Heath Golf Club was as much a test of endurance as it was of golfing skill. Despite the exceptional heat, players embraced the challenge and enjoyed one of England's most characterful heathland layouts under brilliant blue skies. The record-breaking conditions added another memorable chapter to an already unforgettable day.
Course Highlights
Founded in 1913, Camberley Heath is one of the country's finest traditional heathland courses. Originally designed by the legendary Harry Colt, the course has remained remarkably faithful to his original vision. Colt's design philosophy — rewarding strategic thinking over brute force — is evident throughout, with every hole demanding careful positioning and intelligent shot selection.
The course is renowned for its natural beauty and distinctive character. Towering pines, silver birch, and flowering heather frame many of the fairways, creating a peaceful yet demanding environment. Unlike many modern layouts, Camberley Heath places a premium on accuracy rather than length, with firm, fast-running fairways and subtle, beautifully contoured greens that require precision both into and around the putting surfaces.
One of the club's most unique traditions is the absence of bunkers on the opening hole — a rarity among championship courses — and throughout the round players encounter Colt's trademark strategic features, where angles into greens often matter more than distance from the tee. The routing flows naturally through the Surrey heathland, giving each hole its own identity while maintaining a timeless feel.
Weather Conditions
The UK's hottest recorded June day, no less. Brilliant blue skies overhead and serious heat to deal with on the ground — proper summer golf, and a real test of stamina alongside the usual demands of a Colt design. Staying patient, staying hydrated, and picking your moments to attack the pin all mattered. Hats off to everyone who powered through.
Tournament Highlights
For Golf Pairs competitors, the day offered everything the format is about — friendly competition, great company, and the chance to experience one of England's classic golfing venues. As scores were compared over refreshments in the clubhouse, conversations inevitably turned to the remarkable weather, the demanding greens, and the memorable moments shared on a course that continues to stand the test of time.
