Breadsall Scramble 2026

Breadsall Scramble 2026

Blazing 37°C heat on the hottest day of the year, a Scramble format that let players relax into the day, a 396-yard tee shot to remember, and a stunning -20 winning score to top it all off — Breadsall's Moorland Course delivered a properly memorable day of golf.

Course Highlights

The Moorland Course at Breadsall Priory is the more open and generally more forgiving of the two courses at the resort. An 18-hole par-70 heathland-style course, with good drainage and attractive Derbyshire countryside views throughout, it offered the perfect layout for a Scramble day — plenty of scoring opportunities without any hidden traps.

Weather Conditions

The weather was properly crazy — 37°C, pretty much the hottest day of the year. Genuinely tough conditions to play in, and a real test of stamina alongside the usual demands of the golf. Staying hydrated became just as important as staying on the fairway, and it's safe to say the bar took a small fortune in cold drinks over the course of the day.

Hats off to everyone in all 42 groups who battled through and still put together some seriously good scoring.

Memorable Moments

Scoring today proved difficult in the heat, but the Scramble format allowed for a more relaxed day out on the course — a good format choice for the conditions, and one that produced some memorable moments too.

The 12:10 group of Judith, Graham, Kay, and Ian produced a lovely story of their own, holing out from off the green for a 2 on the par-4 10th — a beautiful chip-in and a proper Scramble moment to remember.

Plenty of 2s and even a few eagles were racked up across the field — genuinely brilliant golf given the conditions.

Tournament Highlights

A stunning -20 topped the leaderboard today — a proper team performance in serious heat. On a day where just keeping the score ticking over was hard enough for most groups, going that low takes real quality from every player in the team.

Winners

Huge congratulations to Adam Ramsdale and his team, who took the top spot with a superb -20. A brilliant Scramble effort in tough conditions and a thoroughly deserved win.

Just missing out by a narrow margin were David Baulch and his team in the runners-up spot — a fantastic effort right in the mix at the top of the leaderboard.

Best Gross honours went to Steve Leahey and his team — a super low score and genuinely top-drawer golf given the heat.

On the Course

Plenty of action away from the main leaderboard too:

  • Men's Longest Drive — Sean Wolley (a stunning 396 yards — great shot! Good to see the team made birdie on the 12th, too)
  • Ladies' Longest Drive (12th) — Tracey Shewan
  • Nearest the Pin (6th) — Stewart Wilson (120 yards down the hill and an easy 2 for the team)

Well played to all three for stepping up when it mattered.

A brilliant day of Scramble golf in the toughest conditions of the year so far. Thanks to everyone who played, to Breadsall Priory for hosting us so well, and huge congratulations once again to Adam and his team on their win. Big thanks also to the bar staff who kept the cold drinks flowing all day — much appreciated! Onto the next one.
