Weather Conditions

The UK's hottest summer on record certainly lived up to its reputation today, with everyone feeling the heat. After such a long, dry summer, the course had turned a deep brown — with the exception of the greens and their surrounding areas, which remained beautifully lush and green. Firm and fast summer conditions at their most extreme, and the kind of day where staying hydrated mattered as much as your golf swing.

Memorable Moments

The most memorable thing about today wasn't a shot at all — it was the sheer number of traditional long golf socks on show. All sorts of colours, patterns, and designs, worn with real conviction across the field. They certainly added a proper bit of character to the day, and were a talking point in the clubhouse afterwards.

Tournament Highlights

The course played very easy due to the dry and firm conditions, and the leaderboard reflected it — a high-scoring Stableford competition across the board.

The winning pair of Leighton and Dean didn't take long to get points on the board, firing a stunning 26 points on the front 9 to lay the perfect foundation for the day's win.

Best Gross belonged to Dave Hetherington and Timmy Corfield with a superb -3 — a proper display of low-handicap golf on a course running at its firm-and-fast best.

The 2s pot was a lively one too — a whopping 15 twos recorded across the field, with each player taking home £29.66 per 2. Jordan Fendwick picked up two 2s for a double share — a brilliant return for some sharp iron play.

Winners

Huge congratulations to Leighton Matthews and Dean Cole, who took the top spot with a superb 48 points — anchored by that outstanding 26-point front nine.

In the runners-up spot were Mike Harrison and Michael Allerton with a strong 45 points — a fantastic effort right in the mix at the top of the leaderboard.

Best Gross honours went to Dave Hetherington and Timmy Corfield with a stunning -3 — a genuinely classy round of golf.
