Our Black Friday week sale ENDS MONDAY
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the format of your Events?
All our events are better ball Stableford played off 90% handicap.
This means each golfer plays their own ball, and the better score from the two on each hole counts towards the team’s total.
Have you implemented the World Handicap System?
All our events are run in line with the new World Handicapping System.
To qualify for prizes, competitors must have a WHS handicap index which will be used to determine playing handicap for the competition. Further information can be found here
When do you want our golfer details?
All bookers are contacted approximately 4 weeks before an event via email, at this point we will request tee time preferences and golfer information.
When do you release the tee times?
Tee times are released 1-2 weeks before the event. Once they are released we will notify you by email. If you wish to advise us of a tee time preference you must do this in the user registration form you are emailed ahead of the competition.
Can we choose a tee time?
If you wish to advise us of a tee time preference you must do this in the participation form you are emailed ahead of the competition. We will do our best to meet all requests, If we can not meet your exact request we will get you as close to it as we possibly can.
If your pair wins an event or finishes in the top 5 on either of or two order of merit leaderboards, you will win a 4 night 3 round overseas trip to a top 100 golf course in Europe. Breakfast will also be included. The winning pair will receive a voucher that will expire 2 years from the date it is won. The voucher can be activated at any point that the chosen venue has availability, no date exemptions will apply. Flights and transfers are not included. Once your voucher has been used, cancellations and date amendments are completely at the discretion of the venue, not Golf Pairs.
The chosen destination will be confirmed soon, but in the meantime you can rest assured that from us you can always expect the highest quality. For obvious reasons things are taking longer to arrange at this time, but it's coming!
What happens if we win multiple events and are vouchers transferable?
An individual is only eligible to win 1 main prize a year from winning events. Should you win a second event you will be switched with whoever finishes in second place and they will take the first place prize. Vouchers for winning events are non-transferable, non-refundable and can only be used by the winners. What happens if we win an event and qualify via the order of merit leaderboard? Should you win an event and qualify via order of merit, you will then be able to either transfer one pair to recipients of your choice or attend for a second time. An individual is only eligible to win 1 order of merit prize.
How are prizes awarded?
We will correspond with all prize winners once we’ve checked handicaps. These will then be sent out to you in the post or via email depending on what has been won.
Can ladies and mixed couples play at your events?
Yes - we are inclusive - all are welcome
Do ladies get courtesy shots at your events?
We make all necessary adjustments based on the SSS of the course being played. So if a red tee has a higher SSS than a white tee those playing from red tees would have handicaps adjusted accordingly.
Do I need a formal CONGU handicap to join your events?
All are welcome to participate, handicap or not. To win the placed prizes, both you and your partner must have official CONGU handicaps. If you don't have official handicaps you have a choice to get Golfshake handicaps for free and participate in the Golfshake competition, or if you don't want to do that, participate just for fun. We verify handicaps of prize winners through our access to central handicap databases for the respective unions, where all CONGU handicaps are logged.
Is there a handicap limit?
There is no handicap limit in any of our competitions since we are inclusive and rely on the integrity of the handicap system to ensure a fair competition. The average handicap of our winners across the 2019 season was 8.5 - made up of a mix from a scratch winner (with a 3 handicapper) at Princes up to a 21 handicapper winning at Celtic Manor with a 10 handicapper
How are handicaps verified?
We have CDH access and check all handicaps. New for 2020 we are asking all golfers to take photo ID with them on the day so we can link name and photo. Any specially good scores we contact golf clubs directly to check on the status of handicaps.
Can I compete for prizes if i have a golfshake handicap?
If you have a Golfshake Handicap (free) you can participate in all side competitions but you will not be able to play for the placed prizes. Should we have enough Golfshake Handicap participants you will also have a separate leaderboard and prizes will also be available.
How do we let you know about our Golfshake Handicap?
When we send out your registration form everyone will be asked whether they are playing in the main draw for CONGU handicappers or the Golfshake draw. A pair can only compete in one competition which you decide on registration.
Do pairs need to be registered at the same golf club?
No you do not.
Can juniors play?
Yes we permit juniors with formal handicaps over 14 years old who are accompanied by an adult. We get a number of parent/child partnerships at our events.
Is food and drink inclusive?
t's not something we offer right now unless clearly stated otherwise but it is something we are working with our clubs at potentially doing it in the future.
Can we secure places via deposit?
Yes up to four weeks before a competition you can pay a deposit of £25 per person to secure your place. This can be done by going through the checkout as normal and on the final page selecting Bank Deposit. Once you have selected bank deposit and reserved your place, please then follow the instructions that are presented to you. This will involve you contacting your bank either via online banking, telephone or branch and setting us up as a payee. Bank details are always here https://golfpairs.com/pay if you lose the confirmation email. Use your order number as reference..
Can I play as a single golfer?
Yes you can join as a single golfer - just change the quantity to 1 when you book, we will then pair you up before we draw tee times. We have many single golfers participate in our competitions.
Can I play in a group with my friends?
Yes you can. If you book as a group we will assume you wish to play together unless you tell us you wish to play consecutively. If you have booked separately you must tell us in the form sent to you 4 weeks before the competition who you wish to play with.
I haven’t given you my details when I booked- when do you want them?
We take golfer details in our registration form which we will send out ahead of the event. As peoples circumstances change regarding many things such as tee times and partners we leave it until a month before an event to request this information.
What is your policy on cancellation and refunds?

What’s the pace of play like at your events?
Mandatory pick up when not scoring, Penalties in place for not keeping up with the group in front, marshalls on the course, starter on the course managing first tee are some of the things we do, but we rely on every golfer to act responsibly and be ready to play.
How do we know if there is a dresscode?
Participants will be notified if any given club requires anything specific.
Can we use buggies and caddies?
Buggies and caddies may be used but must be booked directly through the club.
Can we use GPS and laser range finding equipment?
Can the leaderboard be viewed online by family and friends?
Absolutely - the live leaderboard you score on the course, and on the event page will be the links to the leaderboard so everyone can see how well (or not!) you are doing.
We usually have leaderboard displaying in the clubhouse too.
Do you permit gimmes?
No - all putts must be holed out.
Why 90% handicap?
Currently we follow CONGU guidance since we wish to remain aligned with their rules. All golf clubs affiliated with unions in England, Wales, Scotland or NI must align with this guidance. If CONGU changes the guidance then so will we.
