AGPT Links Jug - South Wales 2015

2nd – 4th July 2015

After many of our members requested an event in this part of the country we compiled Royal Porthcawl host of 2014 Senior open, Pennard and Machynys Peninsula.  A lovely mix of traditional, cliff top and new links.  Porthcawl and Pennard lived up to their reputation of quality links tracks, a right of passage for any keen golfers looking for golfing breaks in South Wales. This was complimented beautifully by Machynys, a Nicklaus designed course with plenty of water, reeds and traps.  Many of our golfers who played multi events described this as the hardest course they had ever played with a SSI of 4 strokes over par.
The fact that all 3 are different lends itself brilliantly to a 54 hole competition and proximity to Swansea meant there was plenty to do off the course, with certain unnamed golfers being spotted on Wind Street at a time when they would normally be having breakfast!
Winners Rob Jackson and Nick Elliott from the Garzels blew the field away with 121 points over 3 days, 10 strokes ahead of 4 teams on 111 points.  Runners Up Douglas Fox and Robin Paul (Bear Naked Lads) were determined using our tie break rules with 2 rounds of 39 and a 33 beating their nearest competitor’s 39 38 34.
